About me
I am Julia Soh, a student in molecular genetics in the University of Dundee. I grew up in a humble household, we were not wealthy and not anywhere near established in the scientific community, but we were rather well-off. I was always a curious kid, constantly wondering about the world around me and the way things work. From a young age, I had interests in marine biology and entomology, fueling a passion for science. With this passion, I would participate in many competitions to represent my school in the area of science, mathematics and even philosophy. Of course, my whole life does not revolve around only science; I was a vocalist in a choir as well as a social worker. I am currently do research in the area of molecular and synthetic biology. I aspire to be a synthetic biologist to engineer novel organisms to benefit society.
Research Interests
I have a strong passion in understanding and bringing out the potential in nature. Looking at the many ways nature has beautifully engineered systems that seem to work in such a meticulous manner had always awed me. I want to bring out these amazing systems developed in nature and optimize and engineer them to contribute to human society in whatever way possible! With the power of the emerging field of synthetic biology, I believe it is possible to bring out the potential with the creation of recombinant and synthetic organisms to benefit the society.
